Bus Procedures and Guidelines
To ensure the safety and efficiency of our transit system, we encourage all families to review our bus procedures thoroughly. Please note that these guidelines are a formal component of the school enrollment process. Remember, riding a bus is a privilege, not a right. Please help your student understand that it is important to follow the same safety protocols that he/she follows in a car (even if the bus does not have a seat belt) and he/she must remain seated at all times and follow the procedures listed above in order to keep the bus, the students on the bus, and those who are near the bus, safe.
Bus Procedures for Daily Transportation and Field Trips
Listen to the bus driver
Keep hands, feet, and objects to one’s self
Be kind and share seats nicely
Use appropriate language and a voice level that is low and at a non-distracting level
Must be seated while the bus is in motion (bottom to bottom and back to back)
All student conduct rules and procedures should be followed
Guidelines (Information) for Parents and Guardians
Bus Stop Supervision: For the safety of your student, we strongly recommend parent/guardian supervision until the bus arrives, as students remain under the care of the family until they board.
Conduct: We use a progressive discipline system; however, serious safety infractions may result in immediate or permanent removal from the bus.
Safety Risks: If a student's behavior creates an unsafe environment, bus privileges may be revoked immediately, requiring the family to provide alternative transportation.
Physical Conflict: To ensure a safe and calm commute, fighting results in a minimum one-day suspension for all parties involved, with further action possible for severe incidents.
Bus Access: For the safety of all children, the bus is considered private property, and Indiana law prohibits anyone, including parents/guardians, from boarding a bus at any time without prior authorization.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our students safe. If you have any questions regarding these procedures, please contact our Transportation Department 765-454-7105.
